Pornography and the Law

Should Pornography Be Restricted By Law?

Let me start by saying that I am not pro-porn. I don't care to have it my home. The critical question here is should pornography be restricted by law. My answer is a simple no. If we were to have pornography restricted by law we would be basically stomping on the constitution. People have the "right" to own, obtain, and view pornography. The larger issue that I have with pornography is when it gets into the wrong hands. With pornography all over the internet, I am afraid that more and more children are seeing and viewing pornography. My bigger fear is sexual offenders and predators. They should not be able to possess pornography. Unfortunately, this brings us back to the constitution. We cannot just pick and choose who can possess pornography.

Let me know your take on this issue.

  1. I am pro-pornography. I enjoy it and I keep it in my home but I do not see how this is a constitutional argument. You state that sex offenders should not possess porn but you don't think we should restrict who does or doesn't...where do you stand because it is not clear to me?

I'm positive there were sex offenders before Playboy magazine and internet porn. I do not believe pornography contributes to the crime rate. That's like blaming rap music on the murder rate. But I can admit they are both influential to pop culture.

Like I said I am pro-porn but nowhere in the constitution does it mention the right to watch porn. I know it mentions properties but if you are surfing porn online, then it is not in your possession, therefore it is not your property. I agree that it shouldn't be outlawed but I am fine with it being restricted to adults 18 and over (which includes sex offenders).
